Call for entries: top 50 noteworthy people in webcomics - 17
(DEADLINE EXTENDED to 7th Feb, so i can do more research and you can submit more entries, Please help spread the word)
I’m writing a list of the 50 most notable people in webcomics. I think I’ll call the final list somethinglike:
‘A Snapshot of the webcomic landscape’, or something

The final list will be based on entries as well as independent research.
['RULES': not really, but close. The idea of this list is to provide a general idea of the webcomic landscape, with interesting landmarks large and small and even obscure as long as they are worth a look, it's by no means easy to chart such a map. The main rules for 'judging' are democracy mixed in with common sense and research your nominations will serve as a starting point. Where have you been on the webcomic map, share your adventures!]

I guess that he’s not very noteworthy yet, but Daniel Davis does a cool comic called the Monster Commute.
He’s the same guy behind Steam Crow Press.

Is most well known for: Michael Moss has been a cartoonist and illustrator since 1999; living and working in sunny San Francisco. Publishing the webcomics Quitting Time, Gods Playing Poker and Shadensmilen under the banner of Dung Beetle Comics, a webcomic collective of which he’s a founding member.
Is also known for: Michael also gathers news and write the Webcomic Wire for the weekly podcast the Gigcast produced by the hard rockin’ people at NightGig Studios.

I’d recommend John Hernandez for all the hard work he’s doing in supporting various webcartoonists with hosting (RampageNetwork). He’s ultra reliable and a godsend in terms of quick, speedy technical support.

Is most well known for: Least I Can Do, and irreverent look at one man’s quest to sleep with every attractive woman he can. Also Looking for Group, a look at fantasy gaming through the eyes of the evil guys.

As far as noteworthy/influential goes, I’d have to nominate the Halfpixel crew (Dave Kellet, Brad Guigar, Scott Kurtz and Kris Straub, http://webcomics.com/ ) for writing How To Make Webcomics which is a handy book indeed. Combine that with the Webcomics Weekly podcast and I think they’ve had a pretty big impact in terms of encouraging people to try their hand at webcomicking. It worked for me…
Also the Penny Arcade guys for proving so spectacularly that you can make a living from webcomics. Living the dream.
Also Kate Beaton, http://katebeaton.com/ for producing some really charming and amusing history comics that make me laugh a lot.

started http://smackjeeves.com . The number of free webcomics hosted on the somewhat modest site are staggering. Even more so since he has largely run the site by himself while in college. Honorable mentions should also be extended to Alex (Cutething), who has revamped the forum, making it an organized easy-to-use place, and Alex (pyroman) who has put together a comprehensive FAQ in said forum.
