It all started when Kleefeld started a discussion on his blog about why comics don’t work on the iphone. His reason was space and the time it takes to navigate the screens.

Here are my thoughts.

All comics currently available on the iphone are made fore other media and have been chopped up to fit. sometimes it works sometimes not so.

I think if creators could team up with developers some inovative solutions can be found to solve the problems of comics on an iphone.

One valid soloution I think is to make use of the iPhones motion sensors so that you can tilt the device to make the comic scroll back or forward at different sppeds depending on the angle of the tilt.

That way comic panels don’t have to fit an iphone screen but could actually be as long as you like.. an infinate canvas. I believe this would be a beautiful soloution.

by the way I recently lernt that UX means (hUman eXperience) i.e how we might experience media or technology.

If you do have a way for me to upload my comics in the way mentioned above into an iPhone please let me know? CHEERS

Do share YOUR 2 cents=)

I’m writing a list of the 50 most notable people in webcomics. I think I’ll call the final list somethinglike:

‘A Snapshot of the webcomic landscape’, or something

If you’d like to be included or would like to nominate someone, please leave a comment or email me with the header 50 webcomic people to: numediaartist@gmail.com

THE CRITERIA IS NOTEWORTHYNESS WHICH MEANS JUST ABOUT EVERYBODY HAS A SHOT;)

Your email should include the following.

Name:

Aliases:

Is most well known for: (+- 300 words)

Is also known for:

URL: (include up to 3 URLS of the person)

submitted by: (it’s okay to submit yourself)

The final list will be based on entries as well as independent research.

['RULES': not really, but close. The idea of this list is to provide a general idea of the webcomic landscape, with interesting landmarks large and small and even obscure as long as they are worth a look, it's by no means easy to chart such a map. The main rules for 'judging' are democracy mixed in with common sense and research your nominations will serve as a starting point. Where have you been on the webcomic map, share your adventures!]

Welcome to Mini Comic Con 2:

(if you missed the first one you can check it out here )

I asked my friends on twitter, what’s the best part of a comic con, and the their answers we’re invariably: ” Meeting people. Creators want to meet fans, fans want to meet creators, and every one wants to go for drinks later!

I’m going to try to emulate that in MiniComic Con 2

(and after that, everyone can mingle with virtual beers in the comments section)

First of let me introduce some friends from twitter who had something to say about comic cons:

if you twitter, you might consider following this fun comic loving bunch:)

Onward to the:

COMICS BIN:

(Featuring all the comics mentioned in the first mini comic con, and a few I’ve discoverd along the way, there are some gems here, but i’ll let you have the fun of discovering them for yourself:)

North World
http://www.north-world.com/
The story of a young adventurer who returns to the small town in which he grew up, only to realize that he left too much there.

Flipside
http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic.php
A wandering, manga-style fantasy story of two young women and the ethical dilemmas they face in combat.

dead winter
http://deadwinter.cc/
This lovely combination of humor and drama follows a young woman during a zombie apocalypse. Quite a few characters, fun to read.

Tall Tale Features (A webcomic collective)

http://www.talltalefeatures.com.

Tall Tale Features is a collection of professional cartoonists working together for a single goal: To bring you, the reader, the best comics on the web. The roster is comprised of some of the hardest-working young cartoonists in the industry, all with a strong desire to make you a die-hard fan.

OH-NO Comics.

http://www.ohnocomix.com

once a week single panel comic that will cause laughter.

The Black Cherry Bombshells.

http://www.BlackCherryBombshells.com

A web comic is about girl gangs fighting for survival in a world where every male has been mutated into a flesh eating zombie.

They’re on Zuda Comics right now; there’s lots of great titles over there. Hope you’ll give them a lookie when you can.

Tears & Pain

http://www.tearsandpain.com

A fantasy based Dramedy in a world I have nurtured and dreamt up over the last 10 years. I hope you read and Enjoy.

EBEN07 Comic

Eben07 comic ,=<< link

A comic about an espionage agency that takes care of all the mess after spy missions – which often is a job that is just as adventure filled as the original mission.

Mac Rat Love

My comic is sorta-kinda on hiatus but not really, I’ve just been too lazy to update lately. But it’s called MacRatLove, and it’s an awkward, geeky glimpse at life as an art student.

The North Side

It features a webcomic by me titled Squires of Dimness. http://www.north-side.net/?cat=5
The characters are LOOSELY based on the 2005 lineup of Nine Inch Nails but are have evolved into original characters that just have subtle likenesses of the guys they’re based on. The “plots” are written in a way where anyone – fan of the band or not can enjoy them. I keep them innocent, ridiculous, and most importantly, hilarious (at least I try to?).

So if you despise coconut ice cream, are attached to certain pieces of clothing, or a huge sudoku fan, you might relate to a few of the characters .

Orcusville

Orcusville is aimed at tabletop gamer nerds primarily (but the humour can also cover all sorts of stuff like heavy metal, movies and comic books). The art is all clip art me and the co-creator (Josh Wagner)had done. Anyhow, it can be found at http://www.orcusville.com .

Sunset Grill

For myself I write a science fiction comic called Sunset Grill, a futuristic comedy of crime, poverty, and serious drinking. Feel free to drop by and check me out.

Phineus:Magician for Hire-

http://phinmagic.com !

This is the site to the fantastic world of Phineus: Magician for Hire. Follow the tongue-in-cheek adventures of Phineus and Sara Beam as they battle the forces of evil Hell-bent on taking over the world! He’s a Mage and she likes to shoot things. They hunt vampires, slay dragons, destroy zombies, fight Nazis, travel into outerspace. You get the picture!

QaptainQwerty

http://www.flickr.com/photos/qaptainqwerty/ .

I know, I know, it’s just a lousy Flickr collection, but I am no good at setting up website. The Flickr collection is mostly stuff I drew a few years ago to entertain my colleagues in the office. Most were drawn on a whiteboard with dry erase markers then photographed with a digital camera. Some photo editing happened every now and then, but I usually write a long description of what I was thinking. Most probably don’t make sense as the ‘toons are inside jokes for my office.

I see so many butterflies

(free to download graphic novel)

http://www.scribd.com/doc/5336320/I-See-So-Many-Butterflies-a-Graphic-Novel

Capes and Babes

http://www.capesnbabes.com

is about a strip mall, a comic book shop and one crazy werewolf.

Get Milked

http://www.getmilked.com

Updated 3 days a week till the end of the world!

Abominable Charles Christopher :

http://www.abominable.cc

The Stoopitz

http://stoopitz.com/about/

This comic is about being young, sometimes stupid and often drunk, while trying to find your way in a big city.

High Moon

http://www.zudacomics.com/high_moon

Werewolves (and a whole lot more) in the Old West.
A grumbly, bounty-hunter, Matthew Macgregor, investigates a series of strange happenings in the dusty Texas town of Blest – where drought has brought famine and hardship to most of the town and surrounding ranches. Unfortunately, that’s the least of the town’s worries!

Me & Jane

http://poseurink.com/meandmyjane/

A new comic about 4 young people, it’s nice to start folloing something big from the beginning:)

Cooming soon:

http://darkplacescomic.com/

http://lemoninc.blogspot.com/

And that’s it for the comics bin, DIG IN! You can also throw your comic into the bin by leaving a comment, with: Name of comic, URL, and a plug.

On to the pub then (comments)

Please feel free to use the comments as a post, con drinking session with friends, there’ll be creators, readers and a whole bunch of fun people, (um I hope)

Talk about comics, dreams, aspirations, whatever, really… Help make Minic Comic Con 2 Special!

WHAT THE HECK IS MINI COMIC CON?

Mini Comic Con, Is a webcomics convention that happens ever 3 weeks on this blog. It can be what ever you want it to be, but let me get the ball rolling with some suggestions on what YOU can do.

If you have a webcomic, you’re welcome to post a link in the comments to your comic, as well as introduce yourself, and your comic. There’s so much good stuff out there, help us find you!

If you don’t have a webcomic, maybe you would like to share a link to one of your favourites, and tell us what you love about that!

oh alright print comics are also welcome, get in here:)

The comments will only be open for 2 days, once it’s over you’ll have to wait till the next Mini Comic Con, to participate. On my part, I’ll share the good things I’ve recently stumble upon in the world of webcomics.

Comments are open NOW! Get busy!

…some of you might be wondering:

WHERE THE HECK IS THE COMIC ?! (Fantasy Story Posting Schedule)

The short version is: I’m working on it! Now you can skip stright down to the comments.

or read the long version.

The Best compliment I’ve got on Fantasy Story is ”Draw Faster!” . It’s also the most frequent. And as much as I would love to oblige. I cannot draw any faster. Besides, there are other things that go into the making of a strip, which have nothing to do with drawing. Writing the plot and dialogue, lettering, scanning, layouts, and a process most artist know, (and love) ’sit and stare’ time. At the moment, this strip takes up all my spare time (and a little bit extra)

While I cannot draw any faster. It is important to me to post consistantly, so I’ve developed this schedule.

For 2 weeks: comics strips are posted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

On the 3rd week: I will still post on Monday’s, Wednesdays and Fridays. But I will post only 1 full colour page on one day, instead of the usual 3 strips. (a Sunday Styled Comic), on the other two days I will post 2 comic related features:

“Mini Comic Con” – A community based offering, highlighting points of interest in the webcomic world. As well as interaction with readers and other creators.

“LOTJ” Learning on the Job: This is where I’ll share something i’ve learnt about making webcomics. It will serve as a reminder to myself. And hopefully a resource to others.

(This 6+1 Cycle, mirrors a newspaper’s publishing schedule. And if Fantasy Story is ever picked up for newspaper syndication, it will be good to go:) )

…

Some shout out’s before I get back to drawing:

No Pink Ponies is the first webcomic that I’ve read from start to finish, It’s about a hot chick and her geek friends and is set in a comic shop:)

Atland is a nicely drawn and coloured fantasy story about… a dead prince or something. I wish it was drawn faster ;p

Psychedelic Treehouse is a complete resource for the webcomic artist.

Fantasy Story was recently interviewed by Eben07 who also has a comic that’ is the kind of funny that makes you pause before laughing.

I also want to shout out to some people on twitter who have been supportive and contributed wittingly or unwittingly to Fantasy Story: sgsaunders, zmortis, triptych, devindra, tacdeb, lemoninc, lawduck .

Alright, I’ll see you in the comments, promote yourselves!

Cheers,

Ming

[UPDATE]

MiniComicCon 1 is now closed!
