This strip was fun to draw, it was a turn of pace from the previous strip. There is alot of expaining to do from this point on. The challange will be to keep the visuals interesting while all this goes on.
This strip is largely influnced by comments on the blog and from twitter
You can influence how the story shapes up by leaving a comment. The following prompts might help.
[Character] We have only seen a silloette of this Paladin, what does he look like up close? How does he behave? How will he treat his new found guest? What kind of gear does he have on?
[Role playing] Andrik the Paladin: A couple of young wanderers demand refuge from a band of Goblins. What kind of hospitality will you offer? (The goblins have kept their side of the truce for almost 100 years, you wonder why they would show violence now) What questions might you ask these strangers?
[Role playing] Johannes Oswald Tristan (Jot) After a good rest in the safety of the tower you awake to find yourself in a bed chamber. There are stairs leading both up and down. Elle takes the stairs down quietly. In the far corner, the Paladin is writing with his back facing you. Will you: take the stairs up to spy the view. Down after elle or will you talk to the Paladin?

I like the name JOT. Mouthful though if in full, what’s the story behind the name? =)
My view: Andrik - he is like the last of the superheroes kind of guy. Former Champion of the world (ala Superman)and with peace in the world, he sort of retires to the watchtower and has been inactive for the last 100years? So I would think he would look like a tough guy but with a tummy? out of shape! well just TOL…
On how he will treat JOT and Ella? I don’t know,
maybe he’ll be in denial about the violence by goblins?
RP:JOT: SPY! =)

[Character] I think the Paladin should be grizzled - more old and hermit-like than battleworn.
Since is kind of a hermit, he could be a a bit socially inept. A rambler who is excited to share his life of solitude and his hobby’s he spends his time on. As a paladin, I think it could be cool if he had a lot of charities and wealth that he donated to underprivileged dwarves.
I think he should have holy gear. Plate armor with a large religious symbol on the front.
[Role playing] Andrik the Paladin: A couple of young wanderers demand refuge from a band of Goblins. I think Andrik would bring them in for a meal to converse the goblin war and his role in its truce and why this is hard news for him to hear. He’s retired after all. I think he should be the About Schmidt of Paladins.
[Role playing] JOT seems like a bit of a sneaker. I think he’d hush Ella and make his way to sneak over. The paladin would be writing a love letter to somebody about the unfolding events - that if these events are true he can no longer see her.

really like eben07’s RP for paladin writing the letter…ooooo, loveeee! =) and also the plate armour bit, defender of something religious…

[voting] no, but everyone get’s their say:)

maybe the paladin can teach Jot some special combat skill or give him a special weapon and impart certain exclusive knowledge………..like where to find the best “amoosa” on Gorf!
October 25th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
“amoosa” I like the sound of that, although I don’;t know what that is, yes, we can send Jot on a wild amoosa chase:)
October 25th, 2008 at 3:50 pm

interesting!
hahah.. andrik..
i’m sure andrik hasn’t seen this.
i’m over excited to know what’s
gonna happen next that i don’t
want to put any imagination into it,
and just wanting to be surprised at
how Andrik is gonna look in your brush…
hehe, a goblin.

chinyew, I think a user named ‘andrik’ has been insisting on using his name on a character.
A goblin is an interesting idea, but I won’t say anymore than that;)
Eben and Deadpo8t, thanks for the thought out comments, gives me a bit to think about. Where did I put those dice again?

I am a bit suspicious of this Paladin fellow.

“JOT”
Fine with it, but i have trouble not thinking of Tristan Thorne from Wall(Stardust) everytime i see that name
Maybe its just the phonetic play of OsWald(Wall) and Tristan in my head mucking about with me, lol…but yeah…cant help but link them >_<
Any chance the name came from there?
November 10th, 2008 at 2:09 am
Not a chance of me basing the name on such a ‘popular’ name because of that movie.
Johannes = Because it’s plain and it starts with J
Oswald = After Oswald Chambers my favourite Christian Writer
and
Tristan = from legand of the fall.
the name make up the character and nature of JOT
